As a student in a small Canadian town John witnessed corruption by town officials in the form of bribery and falsifying reports about and information intended to protect the townspeople.
John turned to paintball as a way to reduce the stress of growing up in a small corrupt town that turned into an opportunity to play professionally. His career was going along great winning local, regional, and national tournaments. One day while playing an exhibition game in his hometown he smashed his knee against a barricade as he dove for cover and had to be taken to the local clinic for treatment.
While John was missing tournaments doing his rehabilitation he was reminded of his neighbors and friends that still lived in his small town which upset him so much that he decided to take matters into his own hands. While snooping around city hall John was confronted by two rather large men who were not interested in talking which led to a very one sided fight. Of course this didn’t last very long which ended by being tossed near a waste treatment center where he woke up covered in a green sludge that spilled from a toxic waste line coming from the waste treatment center.
Desperate to get back to his team and away from this mess he encountered John dedicated himself to his rehabilitation in hopes of making it back to his team before playoffs started.
While getting treatment in the team trainers office John began to feel lightheaded and delusional as he imagined that his hands were transparent. He quickly covered his hands and headed back to the locker room to get dressed and head back to his apartment before someone saw him freaking out. Once he got home, he began researching his symptoms but was interrupted by the beating drums from the music hall blocks away from his apartment. Things now had really intensified and he soon realized that he had no reflection and had become invisible.
John was desperate to get his life back to normal but was distracted by his new abilities which caused him to lose his position on the paintball team leaving him frustrated and lost. Needing to make a living he discovered a flier for NDT apprenticeship on the wall at a local bar where he was going to meet his childhood friend for a drink. A few drinks later John and his friend decided to look into NDT to see what it was all about.
Months later John and his friend were fully entrenched in NDT so much that Johnathon’s new abilities had gone away. Once fully trained in MT, PT, and UT John found himself moving up the ranks in his new job where he became a team leader of the PAUT unit. John found himself on the road for long periods of time enjoying most days and nights but soon was reminded of corruption all around him. Inspectors found money in their rooms, bar tabs settled by an anonymous person, and tickets to hockey games in their trucks. All these treats were exchanged for falsified inspection reports which also meant the inspectors need not perform any work at all instead simply sit on the pipe for a few hours and turn in a clean report. This did not sit well with John, so he soon took matters into his own hands.
John soon found himself spending his nights investigating the corrupt inspection practices and protecting the people in his community. His abilities to resolve echoes from far away then become invisible allowed him to sneak up on the criminals, disarm, and secure them for the police to arrest. John was soon given the name of Night Ranger by the public and local news media and his legend continues to grow each day
